The College of Horticulture and Forestry was established at Jhalawar during the year 2004, keeping in view the growing demand in the field of horticulture and forestry in the state. This is the first college of its kind in the state. Jhalawar is situated between 23045’20’’ and 24052’17’’ N latitudes and 75027’35’’ and 76056’48’E longitudes and it falls under the agro-climatic zone V. The district is 87 km away from Kota en-route to Bhopal / Indore, which is well connected by road and rail network from every corner of the country.

Presently, the College is offering two undergraduate programmes; namely B.Sc. Horticulture and B.Sc. Forestry with, an annual intake capacity 45 and 15 students, respectively. The M. Sc. Horticulture degree programme was also started since academic session, 2006-07 in four broad disciplines of Horticulture, namely; Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Floriculture and Landscaping and Post harvest Technology. The college operates through ten departments, viz. Department of Fruit Science, Department of Vegetable Science, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, Department of Post Harvest Technology, Department of Silviculture and Agroforestry, Department of Forest Biology and Tree Improvement, Department of Forest Products and Utilization, Department of Plant Protection, Department of Natural Resource Management and Department of Basic Science.

The college campus sprawls over an area of 165 ha.  in Jhalarapatan with vivid landscape, out of which about 40 ha. land is being developed for establishment of instructional and research farm for fruit, vegetables and floricultural crops besides other horticultural crops. The rest of  40 ha. Instructional and Research farm is put forth for forestry disciplines: Silviculture & Agroforestry, Forest Biology & Tree Improvement, and Forest Products & Utilization where plantation activities are going on. In pursuit of excellence, the college has the asylum in form of Modern Laboratories, Forest museum & Interpretation centre, Computer lab with internet facilities, Boy’s hostel, State of the art Tissue culture laboratory, Herbal Garden, Protected cultivation unit, Model Nursery and Propagation Unit, and also Farms with all modern agricultural implements/machineries. Fruits and Vegetables processing hall, Vegetables seed processing unit, Girl’s hostel, Farmer’s hostel, Canteen, Playground etc. are other infrastructural strength to the college. The college is growing steadily to achieve the excellence in the field of horticulture and forestry to cope up with the requirements of outgrowing academia across the country.
